Halloween Activities - no tricks, just treats!

Halloween needn’t be a scary time for children (and us grown ups), in fact, it’s time those ghouls and ghosts took to running and hiding! We’ve found some entertaining activities to entertain the little monsters this half term, proving that Halloween is more fun than frightful! If you’re stuck for things to do with the kids, don’t give up the ghost just yet, see our recommendations for the best Halloween-themed activities, guaranteed to add pizzazz and make this half term magical!

Primrose Vale Halloween Trail
Friday 20th - Tuesday 31st October
Inhale the fresh autumn air and kick up those leaves, follow the yellow-brick road down the Primrose Vale Halloween trail this October half term! Suitable for children of all ages, but most enjoyed by those between 3 and 15. Face spooky tasks, solve mysterious puzzles and children take home a tasty treat! £5 per child and accompanying adults go free (hoorah!). Find out more.

Halloween in Pittville Park
Saturday 21st - Sunday 29th October
Things going bump..in the day? No need for fright night this half term, there’s some spooky going’s on in Pittville Park before dark! Get creative in the Boathouse with free arts and crafts activities, children welcome to gather and listen in amazement at magical Winnie the Witch storytelling, there’s even a tricky treasure hunt and pumpkin bowling! Now that sounds like magic to us! Remember to dust off those costumes, fancy dress is encouraged for young and old! Most events and activities are free. Find out more.

Saturday 21st October

St Mark’s Community Centre Halloween Party
A start half term with an ‘alakazam’, special Halloween event is taking place at St Mark’s Community Centre, hosted by Changing Faces Face Painting. There’s a fancy dress competition, face painting and even a DJ! The event is most suited to children aged 4 – 11 (although all ages welcome). 100 tickets available, £10 per child, although children under 2 & accompanying adults are free. Room on the Broom Craft - Prestbury Library
Whoosh along for children's 'Room on the Broom' themed craft activities at Prestbury Library. We imagine a morning of cozy crafts and spooky stories, all before lunch time! Aimed at ages 0-4, this indoor event is free. Find out more.

Wednesday 25th October

Room on the Broom Craft - Charlton Kings Library
If you didn’t catch the Room on the Broom Craft activities at Prestbury Library, have no fear - as if by magic, the team will re-appear in Charlton Kings! Roll up those sleeves and get gluey - create more messy, magic moments with your little ones at this free event, this indoor activity is suitable for ages 0-4. Find out more.

Halloween Storytime & Craft - Bishops Cleeve Library
Inspire those tiny minds and hands with spooky stories and crafts, suitable for ages 4 and over. Children are welcome to dress up in their favourite Halloween costumes, although I’m sure parents are allowed too! This event is free, with on-site library parking. Find out more.

Halloween Biscuit Decorating
Get Creepy at Crickley Hill Country Park for spooktacular Halloween themed biscuit decorating. This is a mid-morning event, creating crunchy crumbly biscuits in spooky shapes and sizes, perfect for after-dinner treats..if you can wait that long! This event is suitable for junior school age, priced at £2.50 per child, with ingredients included. Find out more.

Thursday 26th October

Spooky Tales of Gloucestershire
Spooky tales to us may mean reading the local paper, however put that newspaper down, because the going’s on at The Wilson art Gallery this evening will be spooky enough! Join Fire Springs storytellers Kirsty Hartsiotis and Anthony Nanson for an evening of tales of Gloucestershire set to chill and mystify. Are there fairies, demons and mythical beasts lurking in our forests, or just our imaginations? Suitable for ages 12 and over, with accompanying adults welcome, priced at £10 per person. Friday 27th October

Halloween Soft Play Party
The usual goings-on at Leisure At take a side step this week, with a spooktacular soft play party planned for youngsters, ages 0-4. Come along for a morning of spooky activities such as apple bobbing, potion making, biscuit decorating, face painting, and creepy arts and crafts! Fancy dress is encouraged, although must be suitable for the usual bounce-a-rama! Prices start at £3 for children under 2, and £5 for ages 2 and over. Find out more.

Get Creepy Pumpkin Decorating Competition
Things take a turn to the big and orange as the Get Creepy series continues at Crickley Hill! No need to buy your own pumpkin, as all fruits and tools are provided (we didn’t know a pumpkin was a fruit either)! All you need to bring is your thinking caps as best decorated pumpkin and runner up wins prizes too good to miss! The mid-morning event costs £3 per child, school aged children encouraged to participate. Find out more.

Children’s Halloween Party
The London Inn in Charlton Kings is hosting a special day time, indoor Halloween event, suited for kids aged 3 – 10. There’s a tea-party set to rival a Mad-Hatters, a daring disco, ghoulish games, festive pinatas, and a fancy dress competition with a prize for the winner, so dress to impress! Tickets cost £6.50 per child, available to purchase at the bar within the venue, party bags included (one bag per ticket). Find out more.

Saturday 28th October

Kid’s Halloween Disco
There are so many fancy dress events happening this week, there’s really no need to wear anything else! Pop along to Stoke Orchard Community Centre this Saturday afternoon for a lively indoor disco, perfect for rainy-day weather! Bring your dancing shoes and your wallets, as the on-site the tuck shop offers sweets, crisps, ice cream and fizzy refreshments - a perfect pit-stop until the music starts again! Suitable for school ages, £3 per child and £2 per adult (max 2 adults per child). Under 1’s are free but still require a ticket. Tickets are for sale in the Orchard Stores shop now (attached to the hall). Find out more.

Kid’s Ghost Walk - Prestbury
Cheltenham Paranormal Festivals are running a Kids’ Ghost Walk around Prestbury, with spooky stories and magic tricks along the way! The event begins at 3pm, tickets are £3 per person with all profits donated to charity. This event is suited to ages 5 and over, and all children must be accompanied by a paying adult. We’re Going on a Witch Hunt!
Following the spooky walk through Prestbury, there’s even more magical antics planned at The Plough Prestbury for ages 0-4, although wands best not be waved during this year’s seasonal witch hunt! The fun begins in The Plough’s garden with face painting, arts and crafts, spooky cartoon drawing, a tasty charity bake sale and a fancy dress competition! Sunday 29th October

Hogwarts at TokyoTattoo
If you’ve not had your fill of Harry Potter by now, you’re in luck! Get your fix at this indoor event, celebrating all things Potter! Aimed at school-aged children, although we’re sure parents will enjoy it too, the studio has been magically transformed for the ultimate Hogwarts Halloween experience! Kids can enjoy Harry Potter temporary tattoos, a visit to Platform 9 ¾, a glass of tasty Butterbeer, face painting, ghoulish pic n mix, and Hogwarts Halloween Hampers!
