Jet Age Museum

Looking for a family day out that’s a little different? Step inside the world of pilots, jet engines, giant bombers and real-life aviation adventures at Jet Age Museum in Gloucester.

This brilliant volunteer-run museum is packed with fascinating aircraft, hands-on exhibits and cockpit experiences that little plane fans absolutely love. Even better? Entry is free, making it one of Gloucestershire’s best-value family attractions.

Forget “look but don’t touch” museum vibes. At Jet Age Museum, kids can climb into real aircraft cockpits, press buttons, sit in pilot seats and imagine they’re taking off on a top-secret mission. The Vulcan bomber and Trident cockpit experiences are always a big hit with curious young visitors.

There’s loads to spot inside the huge aircraft hangar, from vintage planes and engines to aviation gadgets and fascinating stories from Gloucestershire’s flying history. Families with younger children will love the quiz trails and the “Biggles” play plane, while grown-ups can enjoy chatting to the friendly volunteers who help bring the exhibits to life.

One of the best bits? The museum sits right next to Gloucestershire Airport, so you can often watch real planes taking off and landing while you explore. Budding pilots will be in heaven.
