Play Ground at The Wilson

Next dates

Sorry, there are no future dates available

This summer, The Wilson invites families to step into Play Ground – an exciting, interactive exhibition where children can play, explore, and connect with Cheltenham’s rich heritage of outdoor spaces.

Saturday 7 June to Sunday 21 September 2025
Free

Inspired by our concurrent exhibition, Common Ground, Play Ground explores the idea of rewilding ourselves and embracing the shifting landscapes around us. At the centre of the exhibition is a collaborative installation by local textile artists Centre Half, who have hand crafted banners and flags inspired by The Wilson’s collections and local plants using naturally dyed fabrics.

Families can enjoy a boating adventure inspired by Cheltenham’s historic Pittville Boating Pond, first opened in 1895, complete with playful picnics, and storytelling that bring the town’s parks and green spaces vividly to life.

Designed for all ages, from toddlers to grown-ups, Play Ground offers games, creative challenges, hands-on activities, and changing nature trails that encourage visitors to venture out and rediscover Cheltenham’s outdoor treasures. Whether under sunny skies or on rainy afternoons, Play Ground sparks curiosity about how we share and shape the natural world around us.

** Kids offer **

Kids can enjoy a hot meal deal for just £3.50, which includes one toastie. Choose from Cheesy Delight, Ham and Cheese Classic, or Beans and Cheese Melt, plus a drink orange, blackcurrant, or raspberry squash and a Nestlé Mini Break snack bar. Grown-ups haven’t been forgotten either. Our Grown-Up Toasties are £4.95, served with a delicious golden Welsh rarebit crust for extra flavour. Ask a member of the team for this week’s selection, which may include options like Parma Ham, Mozzarella and Pesto, Chicken Tikka with Mango Chutney, Halloumi with Hot Maple Sriracha, and more veggie or vegan delights.
