Step back through more than 1,000 years of history during Sudeley Castle's fascinating History Weekend. Across three days, visitors can enjoy a packed programme of expert talks, guided tours, interactive sessions, live music, storytelling and special behind-the-scenes experiences that bring the castle's remarkable past to life.

From Tudor queens and Civil War battles to Georgian gardens and Victorian fashions, History Weekend offers something for history enthusiasts of all ages. Activities take place throughout the castle and grounds, with many events included with general admission and a selection of special ticketed experiences available to book in advance. 

Highlights Include

  • Meet Sudeley's archivist and explore original historical documents.
  • Behind-the-scenes guided tours of private family rooms normally closed to visitors.
  • Historic garden tours with Sudeley's gardening experts.
  • Period music performances featuring authentic medieval and Tudor instruments.
  • Tudor storytelling sessions suitable for adults and children.
  • Live conservation work on the historic Sheldon Tapestry.
  • Expert talks covering Tudor history, the English Civil War, Georgian gardens and Victorian life.
  • Special presentations from Winchcombe Museum historians.
  • Evensong service in St Mary's Chapel to conclude the weekend.

Special Ticketed Evening Events

History fans can also enjoy two exclusive evening talks in The Orangery, each including an arrival drink hosted by Lady Ashcombe.

  • Friday 26th June: Alison Weir presents The Boleyn Secret (£25 per person).
  • Saturday 27th June: David Starkey explores the extraordinary life of Katherine Parr (£25 per person).
